Abelia mosanensis is a fragrant variety, long flowering and good green foliage turning towards red in fall. Height around 5ft, easily pruned and reasonably deer resistant. Good to Zone 4.
Abelia x grandiflora is known as the glossy Abelia, with its many cultivars reaches a height of around 4ft, again long flowering hardy to USDA zone 6 and suitable for landscaping uses as a border plant or as a low informal hedge.
Popular cultivars include Abelia x ‘Canyon Cree’, Abelia x “Rose Creek and Abelia ‘Edward Goucher’, usually available in 1 – 3 gal containers, some larger specimens to 15 gal.
Abelia x ‘Kaleidoscope is also popular for its low growing habit and variegated foliage. Abelia x ‘Francis Mason’ is another with variegated foliage.
